One Decision. Two Hours. A Skill You Will Have for Life.

What Would You Do in the Next 60 Seconds?

Every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals in the United States. That’s roughly one person every 90 seconds. But here’s what’s truly sobering: only about 46% of people who experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest receive CPR from a bystander. The difference between survival and tragedy often comes down to one simple fact—someone nearby knew what to do.

Picture this: You’re at your child’s soccer game. A parent on the sideline suddenly collapses. Everyone freezes. Phones come out, but no one moves. Precious seconds tick by. The ambulance is still eight minutes away. In those moments, you could be the person who changes everything. But only if you know how.

Here’s the empowering truth: you don’t need to be a doctor, nurse, or medical professional to save a life. You just need two hours of training and the willingness to act. At Delacruz CPR Academy, we’ve helped thousands of everyday people—teachers, parents, office workers, and retirees—gain the confidence and skills to respond when it matters most.

Why This Skill Matters More Than You Think

CPR isn’t just another certification to add to your resume. It’s a life-saving superpower that you carry with you forever. When cardiac arrest happens, every minute without CPR reduces a person’s chance of survival by 10%. After just 10 minutes without intervention, brain damage becomes likely. This isn’t fear-mongering—it’s reality. And it’s exactly why your knowledge could mean the difference between someone going home to their family or not.

Think about the people you love. Your spouse. Your kids. Your parents. Your coworkers. Any of them could experience a medical emergency. It won’t happen on a schedule, and it won’t wait for an ambulance. The person most likely to help will be someone nearby—and that person could be you.

Beyond the life-saving aspect, CPR certification opens doors. Many employers require it. Schools want teachers who are certified. Coaches need to be trained. Sports programs, daycare centers, and fitness facilities all prioritize certified staff. In just two hours, you’re making yourself more valuable to your community and more prepared for life.

Here’s What You’ll Learn: Step-by-Step Response

CPR might sound intimidating, but the process is straightforward and logical. Here’s what happens when you take our course:

Step 1: Recognize the Emergency

You check responsiveness. If someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally, cardiac arrest is likely. This is not the time to overthink it.

Step 2: Call 911 Immediately

Get emergency services on the way first. The dispatcher will guide you through what to do next. If you’re alone, many phones allow you to use voice commands—just shout “Call 911.”

Step 3: Start Compressions

Place the heel of your hand on the center of the person’s chest. Place your other hand on top. Push hard and fast at least 2 inches deep, at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. You’re not trying to be gentle—you’re trying to save their life. Current research shows that hands-only CPR (compressions without rescue breaths) is highly effective for adults.

Step 4: Use an AED if Available

If there’s an automated external defibrillator (AED) nearby, grab it or have someone else get it. These devices are designed for non-professionals. Turn it on, and it tells you exactly what to do.

Step 5: Continue Until Help Arrives

Keep going until the ambulance arrives or someone relieves you. This is exhausting work, and that’s okay. You’re doing the right thing.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

When you’re trained, you avoid these pitfalls:

  • Hesitation: The biggest killer is people freezing up. Training removes doubt.
  • Incorrect hand placement: Our instructors show you exactly where to position your hands.
  • Compressions that are too shallow: You need adequate depth to be effective.
  • Stopping too early: Keep going until professionals take over.
  • Worrying about “doing it wrong”: Imperfect CPR is infinitely better than no CPR.

When to Call 911: Don’t Wait

Call 911 immediately if someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally. Don’t second-guess yourself. Don’t wait for the person to “look bad enough.” Trust your instincts. The dispatcher is trained for this and will help guide you. Every second counts, and there’s no penalty for calling when someone needs help.
