One Decision. Two Hours. A Skill You Will Have for Life.

Every 11 seconds, someone in the United States needs CPR. That’s not just a statistic—it’s a reality that could happen to someone you love right now, today, in your home, workplace, or community.

Picture this: You’re at a family dinner when your father suddenly stops mid-conversation and collapses. Your mother screams. Your instinct is to help, but your mind races with panic and uncertainty. You don’t know where to start. Those precious first minutes slip away while you wait for paramedics to arrive—minutes that could mean the difference between your father walking out of the hospital or not coming home at all.

This scenario happens thousands of times every single day across America. But here’s the empowering truth: you can change the outcome. With just two hours of training at Delacruz CPR Academy, you’ll have the skills and confidence to become someone’s lifeline when it matters most. One decision. Two hours. A skill you’ll have for life.

Why CPR Training Matters More Than You Think

When someone’s heart stops, their brain begins dying within minutes. Emergency responders are invaluable, but they cannot arrive instantly everywhere. The average ambulance response time in many areas is 5-10 minutes—but brain damage can begin in just 4-6 minutes without oxygen.

This is where bystander CPR becomes a lifesaver. Studies show that people who receive immediate CPR from someone nearby are two to three times more likely to survive compared to those who wait for paramedics alone. You don’t need to be a doctor or nurse. You just need to know what to do.

Beyond saving a life, CPR certification gives you:

  • Confidence to act in emergencies instead of freezing
  • The knowledge to help at home, work, school, or in public
  • A credential that enhances many job applications
  • Peace of mind knowing you’re prepared

The Step-by-Step CPR Response You’ll Master

CPR isn’t complicated. In our two-hour training at Delacruz CPR Academy, you’ll learn a simple, proven process:

1. Check Responsiveness and Call 911

Tap the person’s shoulders and shout, “Are you okay?” If they don’t respond, immediately call 911. Don’t wait. Don’t guess. Call first.

2. Position and Open the Airway

Place the person on their back on a firm surface. Tilt their head back slightly and lift their chin to open the airway.

3. Begin Chest Compressions

This is the most critical part. Place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest, place your other hand on top, and push hard and fast at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. Push at least 2 inches deep. You’ll practice this until it becomes muscle memory.

4. Give Rescue Breaths (If Trained)

After 30 compressions, give 2 rescue breaths. Our instructors will guide you through proper technique so you feel confident.

5. Continue Until Help Arrives

Don’t stop. Keep going until emergency responders take over or the person shows signs of life.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many untrained people hesitate because they worry about doing something wrong. Here’s what you need to know: doing CPR imperfectly is infinitely better than doing nothing at all.

Common mistakes we address in training include:

  • Not pushing hard enough — Compressions must be forceful to circulate blood
  • Stopping too soon — Continue until paramedics arrive
  • Delaying the call to 911 — Call immediately, not after trying to help
  • Freezing from fear — Training builds confidence to overcome panic

When to Call 911: Know the Signs

Don’t second-guess yourself. Call 911 immediately if someone:

  • Is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Is choking and cannot cough or speak
  • Has chest pain or pressure
  • Shows signs of a stroke (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
  • Has been injured severely
  • Is in any life-threatening situation

When in doubt, call 911. Emergency dispatchers are trained to help guide you through these moments.
